Course Outline

This course consists of a cluster of units delivered over a two day period. It is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills required to prepare and apply chemicals, transport chemicals and to control weeds in line with Department of Primary Industries requirements. The course accreditation allows successful students to apply to hold an Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) unrestricted commercial operator’s license.

Day One: Will consist of face to face classroom delivery, learning techniques to identify weed infestation and consider control options. Handling and transporting chemicals in line with legislative requirements and weed mitigation using case studies that build on one another.

Day Two: Will consist of practical application in accordance with the license requirements and the unit of competency specifications for chemical use.

Logbooks will be supplied at the conclusion of the training in order to conduct 2 workplace applications of chemical handling, transport and use in line with the competency requirements.

 

Assessment

Theory assessments will be conducted mid morning of day two and practical assessments may be conducted in the second part of day two for those who are deemed ready for assessment.

Note: Students not ready for assessment shall be provided a log book for use in the workplace and assessed at a later date as agreed by the employer and qualified assessor. Additional charges may apply for one-off assessments.

On successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment and a Statement of Attendance.

 

Who Should Attend?

Persons who are seeking a commercial operator’s licence to use chemicals for weed and pest control in either a work environment or for personal use.

  • Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

There are provisions for recognition of prior learning for the training. Please discuss with DTE Administrator.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of activities that participants will need to perform include:

  • Read and interpret safety data sheets (SDS), chemical labels, and other documentation to determine chemical application actions and activity
  • Record and complete organisational records using clear language and terminology
  • Perform mathematical calculations to determine rates of application chemical mixtures and calibration of equipment
  • Planning, sequencing and prioritising tasks required for chemical application activities
  • Follow policies, procedures and regulations
