Course Outline
This course is designed to prepare a worker to conduct basic pole saw operations. The Nationally Accredited course will provide the skills and knowledge required to trim high branches reachable with a power driven pole saw, to promote tree growth by trimming and felling excess branches and to conduct operator maintenance. Power driven pole saw refers to professional standard pole-mounted chainsaws that are typically fuel types, but may be battery powered, and generally telescopic.
The course consists of face to face classroom delivery learning techniques and fundamental underpinning knowledge of basic pole saw techniques.
Practical application will consist of tree trimming techniques at a location within the Gladstone area.
Assessment
Theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
Personnel deemed not yet competent will be given an opportunity to join another course session.
On successful completion participants receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
Who Should Attend?
Persons who use a pole saw for maintenance of trees in a range of contexts, including parks and gardens, agriculture and general tree maintenance.

Recognition of Prior Learning
There are provisions for recognition of prior learning for the training.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of activities that participants will need to perform include:
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues
- Sharpen chain with files set to correct angles
- Record trimming activity and maintenance records
- Identify problems and equipment faults and select treatments
- Identify appropriate branches to be trimmed
- Assess the capacity and suitability of equipment to the task of trimming trees
