Industry Requirements
Depending on site industry requirements, Enter Confined Spaces is available in either MSM or RII competencies.
Course Outline
This course is a nationally accredited one day course and is accepted in the mining, construction, oil, gas, and other main stream industries throughout Australia.
The course is compliant with Australian WHS Regulations and the Australian Standard for Working in a Confined Space AS/NZS 2865 and covers the following areas:
- Definitions
- Current legislation
- Duty of care in relation to confined space entry
- Identifying hazards in a confined space
- Risk management including completing a JSEA
- Duties of standby persons
- Confined space equipment requirements
- Gas level stratification
- Gas detector operations
- PPE requirements
- Rescue equipment and plans
Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements.
Assessment
Both theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
On successful completion participants receive a Statement of Attainment and a wallet sized ID card enabling participants to carry proof of training.
Who Should Attend?
Workers who are required to enter an enclosed or partially enclosed space that has atmospheric pressure during occupancy and is not intended or designed primarily as a place of work.
Legislation / Compliance
This course covers all aspects relating to AS 2865 and Confined Spaces Code of Practice.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Due to the risk involved in this course recognised prior learning may only be recognised if the candidate has recently completed the training. Every two years this training should be attended to remain competent.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to demonstrate include:
- Read permits
- Develop Risk Assessments
- Identify and implement signage
- Numeracy skills for gas monitoring
