Duration:  4.5 Hours

PUAFER008 – Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility

Course Outline

This unit of competency is a nationally accredited course that provides the skills and knowledge required to confine small emergencies in a facility.  It includes:

  • Preparing for emergency situations
  • Identifying and assessing an emergency
  • Safely confining emergencies
  • Using initial response equipment
  • Reporting on the facility’s emergency response

Skills covered in this  unit of competency include:

  • Correct use of portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets
  • Apply manufacturers techniques for operation of fire fighting equipment
  • Fire emergency response
  • Confine the run-off from first attack fire fighting techniques
  • Understanding the principle of fire
  • Legislative requirements

 

Assessment

Theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course using fire scenarios.

On successful completion participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

 

Who Should Attend?

This unit applies to all persons who are required to have first attack firefighting skills.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Individuals who believe they may be competent in this unit of competency can apply for RPL. RPL is available based on relevant work experience, formal training or expertise.  Refresher training is recommended every 12 months.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this unit of competence successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication.

Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to demonstrate include:

  • Determine fire type & classification
  • Select correct fire extinguisher for different fire type
  • Demonstrate correct use of portable fire extinguishers & fire blankets inline with manufacturers’ instructions

Commitment

In addition we offer an on-going support service to all course participants including student drop in contact days on a monthly basis.

Cost:

A total fee of $250 per person which covers all course materials, administration, training facility and catering costs.  A maximum of 10 students applies.
