Course Outline
Approved by Workplace Health Safety Queensland (WHSQ) this training will provide newly elected health and safety representatives with the knowledge and skills to carry out their duties as required by WHS Act & WHS Regulations 2011.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Work Health Safety (WHS) legislation and its influence on health and safety outcomes
- Key parties and their WHS legislative obligations and duties of care
- Establishing representation in the workplace
- Participation in hazard and risk management through effective consultation, negotiation and issue resolution as an Health Safety Representative
- Processes and requirements for the issuing of Provisional Improvement Notices (PINS) and the cessation of unsafe work
It is expected that all persons who train to be a Health Safety Representative will have attained sufficient information to search, locate, interpret, consult and support the workplace in the field of Work Health & Safety.
Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements.
Assessment
This course is non-competency based and has no formal assessment. Informal assessments of participants attendance and learner engagement only has been chosen as the most appropriate option for this course. The facilitator will act as the assessor in this process.
Students attending the course will be issued a certificate of attendance to each participant who completed the approved WHSQ HSR training.
Who Should Attend?
This training applies to people who are elected by a designated group as a Health Safety Representative or deputy HSR across all industries.
Legislation / Compliance
New amendments to WHS Act & WHS Regulation 1st September 2024 state: elected HSR representatives must complete training prescribed by regulation within 28 days after the day elected.
This course has been developed for Health & Safety Representatives who will be undertaking the role of elected HSRs.
Recognition of Prior Learning
There are no provisions for RPL within the context of this approved training course.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication.
Examples of activities that participants will need to perform include:
- Read, interpret, WHS legislative framework
- Understand WHS consultation requirements, entitlements & responsibilities of all parties
- Resolve WHS issues through negotiation
- Report incidents & contribute to incident investigation
- Issue Provisional improvement notices
- Direct unsafe work to cease
