Course Outline
This course is a nationally accredited one day course & is accepted in the mining, construction, oil, gas, & other main stream industries throughout Australia.
The course addresses the need for personnel who issue work permits to understand the permit system, know the limitations of each permit & make decisions regarding the need for & correct use of each permit.
The course is compliant with Australian Workplace Health Safety Regulations & the Australian Standard for Working in a Confined Space AS/NZS 2865 & covers the following areas:
- Identify need for work permit
- Confined space entry permit
- Conduct hazard analysis
- Prepare work site for authorised work
- Raise & issue work permits
- Monitor work for compliance
- Receive end of day report
- Close or suspend work permit
Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements. Practical assessment activities will ensure performance is acceptable with training standards & Industry requirements.
Assessment
Where possible attendees are required to bring their own permit to work system for use on the day to be assessed against.
Both theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
On successful completion participants receive a Statement of Attainment.
Who Should Attend?
Personnel who are required to issue appropriate permits to work to persons conducting a variety of activities in workplace environments in which hazards exists and/or specific procedures need to be followed and monitored to protect the safety of personnel & the integrity of plant or process.
Legislation / Compliance
This course covers aspects relating to AS 2865/2009 Working in a Confined Space and S66-S75 within Australian Workplace Health Safety Regulations 2011.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Due to the risk involved in this course recognised prior learning may only be recognised if the candidate has recently completed the training.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of LLN requirements that will need to be demonstrated include:
- Identify work permit required from job scope
- Identify hazards & risks of job scope
- Hold required specialised knowledge
- Use the organisations risk matrix to estimate potential risk & prioritise each risk
- Enter information into appropriate permit in accordance with procedures
- Apply organisations risk control procedures
- Monitor risk controls and review their effectiveness
- Monitor work for compliance
- Receive end of day report
- Communicate worksite & process status to relevant personnel
- Keep records in accordance with procedures
