Duration:  8 Hours

CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industy

 

Course Outline

This course provides new workers in the building and construction industry with the introductory knowledge & skills required to enter and work on construction and building sites unescorted.

Key training  will include:

  • Identifying hazards on a construction site
  • Assessing risks and implementing controls to eliminate or reduce risks associated with construction work
  • Understanding basic concepts of safe work method statements, job safety analysis and the use of safe work practices in the construction industry
  • Knowledge & understanding of the principles in a risk management system and how to assess and use the hierarchy of controls
  • Knowledge of how to follow emergency procedures
  • The correct use and limitations of personal protective equipment.

 

Assessment

Assessments will be conducted during the course with a mix of oral, written and practical assessments to be completed throughout the training session.

Participants who demonstrate competency by successfully completing the training & assessment will receive a Statement of Attainment and a WHSQ Construction Card.

 

Who Should Attend?

Employees who are entering the construction industry are required under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 to attend this training before being able to enter a construction site unattended. Also those who have not been in the industry in the last 2 years, as per WHSQ Regulation Section 317 Duty to ensure worker has been trained.

 

Legislation / Compliance

This training is a nationally recognised program  for persons entering the construction and building industries. Participants who demonstrate competency by successfully completing the training & assessment will receive a Statement of Attainment and a WHSQ Construction  Card.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

There are provisions for Recognition of Prior Learning & Recognition of Current Competency where applicable interstate equivalent qualifications apply.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in reading and communication. Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to demonstrate include:

  • Follow health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
  • Identify construction hazards and follow risk control measures
  • Follow safety signs and symbols
  • Reporting hazards, incidents and injuries
  • Follow incident and emergency response procedures

Cost:

A total fee of $150 per person which covers all course materials, administration, training facility and catering costs.

Prerequisites:

Prior to undertaking training, participants are required to supply evidence of identity (EOI), made up of three matching original EOI documents.
