Course Outline

This training program provides students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge & skills required to effectively conduct risk management activities in the workplace.

The course is a requirement under the Qld Mining Regulations for people who lead others.

This unit covers application of risk management processes in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries. It includes identifying hazards, identifying and assessing unacceptable risk, identifying & recommending treatments, contributing to the implementation of treatments, reviewing safety system documentation & relevant legislation.

Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements.

 

Assessment

Both theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.

On successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Those that manage risk through Take 5s & JSEAs.

 

Legislation / Compliance

This training program has been written to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to comply with their due diligence obligations under the Queensland Coal Mining Act and Regulations.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

Individuals who believe they may be competent in this unit of competency can apply for RPL. RPL is available based on relevant work experience, formal training or expertise.

Complete a Recognised Prior Learning application form and one of our assessors will contact the applicant to discuss evidence requirements.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to demonstrate include:

  • Apply risk management documentation to ensure to compliance
  • Systematically & regularly inspect & analyse work area conditions to identify potential hazards
  • Apply existing procedures to control identified hazards
  • Recognise the type & scope of unresolved hazards and their likely impact
  • Assess & identify unacceptable risk & conduct detailed analysis of feasible options
  • Select & write up risk management plans for most appropriate control
  • Review & document controls for the job
  • Communicate information on control implementation
