Course Outline

This refresher training one day is for supervisors in resources & infrastructure industries & for Health Safety Representatives in the Qld Mining sector.

It provides students with the opportunity to develop the knowledge & skills required to manage work groups in relation to risk management, incident investigations & quality communications.

The course is a requirement under the Qld Coal Mining Act & Qld Mining & Quarrying Act for people who manage others & elected Health Safety Representatives.

These 3 units form part of RII30120 Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations.

 

Apply risk management processes

This unit covers application of risk management processes. It includes identifying hazards, identifying & assessing unacceptable risk, identifying & recommending treatments, contributing to the implementation of treatments, reviewing safety system documentation.

 

Conduct safety & health investigations

This unit covers conducting safety & health investigations. It includes determining the investigations objectives, gathering information, evaluating information, identifying courses of action & preparing & presenting investigation reports.

 

Communicate information

This unit covers the communication methodology in the workplace. It includes communicating information orally & in writing, achieving meeting outcomes, making presentations & participating in negotiations.

Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements. Practical skills shall be demonstrated using case studies.

 

Assessment

Theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.

On successful completion participants receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

 

Who Should Attend?

Supervisors, workers who wish to lead teams and Health Safety Representatives (mining only) that work in the mining, construction and associated resources industries.

 

Legislation / Compliance

This training is a nationally recognised programme which is required under the:

  • Qld Coal Mining Act and Regulations
  • Qld Mining and Quarrying Act and Regulations

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of competencies and direct credit will be granted to applicants who have recently completed the training.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of LLN requirements that will need to be demonstrated include:

  • Access, interpret & apply risk management documentation to ensure work activity is compliant
  • Conduct investigation & write reports
  • Communicate information verbally & in writing to a variety of stakeholders

Prerequisites:

Current Statement of Attainment (within 5 years) of cluster of competencies must be provided at time of booking.
