Course Outline

This course consists of a cluster of units  designed to safely load and secure cargo for transport and is a nationally accredited course conducted over two days that provides the skills and knowledge required to load and unload goods and cargo in accordance with relevant state or territory roads and traffic authority regulations and/or permit requirements.

This course is compliant with the National Transport Commission’s Load Restraint Guide and covers the following topics:

  • Load and unload goods & cargo
  • Secure and protect loads
  • Lash and unlash cargo
  • Pack and unpack cargo
  • Complete documentation

Day one will consist of face to face classroom delivery learning techniques in line with the Load Restraint Guide.

Day two will consist of practical application in accordance with the Load Restraint Guide and assessment for those students who are ready.

 

Assessment

Theory assessments will be conducted toward the end of day one and practical assessments will be conducted in the second part of day two for those who are deemed ready for assessment.

On successful completion participants receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Note: Students not ready for assessment shall be provided a log book for use in the workplace and assessed at a later date as agreed by the employer and qualified assessor. Additional charges shall apply for one-off assessments.

On successful completion participants receive a Statement of Attendance.

Persons who are required to load, secure and unload freight.

  • State/Territory Road and Traffic Authority Regulations

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

There are provisions for recognition of prior learning for the training. Please discuss with DTE Administrator.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of activities that participants will need to perform include:

  • Plan, prepare and communicate work requirements
  • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues
  • Identify Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) code markings and emergency information panels
  • Following lashing plans that have been developed for the load
  • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • Process written records

A total fee of $650 per person which covers all course materials, administration, training facility and catering costs.

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites for these national competencies however, truck drivers must have a valid Queensland truck licence and forklift operators must have a valid high risk licence.
