Standard 11 – Generic Surface Mining Induction

 

Course Outline

The Standard 11 Gap Analysis training is a one day course for mining or heavy industry workers who have not previously completed the Standard 11 Generic Surface Mining induction, or have expired but have transferable industry experience inline with mining competencies. 

This course allows students to be assessed on their fundamental core skills & knowledge required for the Standard 11 Induction which ensures that the generic safety information & obligations, applicable on all types of mine sites are provided to workers prior to working on a mine site.

Evidence of  skill set requirements must be provided:

  • RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIERR205D Apply initial first aid
  • RIIERR302E Respond to local emergencies and incidents
  • RIIGOV201E Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies & procedures
  • RIIRIS201E Conduct local risk control
  • RIIWHS201E Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures

 

Assessment

The assessment consists of challenge testing practical aspect and assessing the underpinning knowledge with a written assessment including formal discussions throughout the days training and assessment process.

On successful completion, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

 

Who Should Attend?

People who are wishing to work in surface mining operations within the coal sector who have previous industry experience.

 

Legislation / Compliance

This training is an approved nationally recognised programme, designed and developed through consultation with Industry, the Mines Inspectorate, Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s), Contractors and the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU). Competency must be refreshed every 5 years.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning

This course is based on recognised prior learning.

 

Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)

To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication.

Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to  demonstrate include:

  • Plan, prepare & communicate workplace needs
  • Respond to First Aid, emergencies & incidents
  • Identify, minimise & implement control measures for risks & hazards
  • Assess emergency, incident, casualties & determine appropriate course of action
  • Reporting of incidents
  • Apply work plans
  • Apply work health safety procedures to ensure work activity is compliant
  • Identify risks to personal wellbeing & communicate recognised preventative strategies

Cost:

A total fee of $700.00 per person which covers all course materials, administration, training facility and catering costs.

Prerequisites:

Evidence of industry knowledge base and experience must be provided. Forms of evidence include:

  • Qualification or Competence statements
  • High Risk Work Licence
  • Resume
  • Written references from employer
  • Previous evidence of mining, such as swipe cards etc
