Course Outline
The Warden and Chief Warden courses are run consecutively. All students sit on the Warden Course and Chief Wardens remain for an extra 3 hours.
This course will equip you with the skills required to act as a Warden and/or a Chief Warden during an emergency outlined as following:
Warden
- Evacuation, assembly principles & procedures
- Fire, bomb threat, and other emergencies & their effects on the workplace
- Identify the workplace fire equipment location/s
- Demonstrate knowledge of workplace evacuation procedures
- Demonstrate efficient evacuation of the workplace
Chief Warden
- Prepare for workplace emergencies
- Apply command, control & coordinate aspects of workplace emergency procedures
- Control the response to emergency reports, signals & warnings
- Coordinate reports & results of initial emergency response
- Debrief incident
Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements.
Assessment
Theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course for Wardens.
Theory and “what if” practical scenarios will be conducted throughout the course for Chief Wardens.
On successful completion participants will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
Who Should Attend?
These units apply to all persons who may be required to act as Warden or Chief Warden in a multilevel workplace setting.
Legislation / Compliance
This course meets the following requirements:
- Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008
- AS 3745 –2010 Planning for emergencies in facilities
- Fire Warden Legal and Regulatory Requirements
Recognition of Prior Learning
There are provisions for RPL within the context of this training course. Please ask our administrator.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete these courses successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication.
Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to demonstrate include:
- Obtain & interpret evacuation procedures
- Identify hazards, address risks & manage unfolding situations
- Prepare for workplace emergencies
- Command, control & coordinate a workplace emergency
- Communicate responses to emergency reports, signals & warnings
- Coordinate reports & results of initial emergency response
- Develop incident reports
